![]() Starting salary: well, $12 hourly, $13 an hour 6 months later, “promoted” a few months after that, and nothing since, now at the 3.5 year mark. Salary: (don’t f*ck!n laugh, I’ll rearrange your panels in your design software □□) 24k (30k with commission, but that’s not guaranteed unless they sell enough jobs) Rank: Art Department Manager (I am also kinda the only graphic designer too now, other manager was fired so I was promoted, kind of, no pay raise for it, been 2 years since then) Industry: Textile printing (Fancy way of saying T-Shirts and signage) Just keep at it, it gets better.įeelin’ like you need a laugh? Read this □ Don't give up and try not to be discouraged (you will suffer major imposter syndrome and feel like you suck because no one will hire you, at least I did). To put it into perspective, exactly a year ago I was working at Old Navy as a seasonal sales associate for 12/h just to bring some money in and pay bills. Myself and my entire graduating class had a very hard time finding work and many of us didn't find jobs for several months after graduating. I read a lot about designers out of college having a hard time finding a job. I just want to say to those that are having a hard time finding a job that it is unfortunately very common for some reason. I graduated from SCAD Atlanta in 2020 with my BFA in graphic design. I am a little over a year out of college. (I am contracting, so I am not a salaried employee) Salary: I make 40/h, it works out to around 80k. Position: Junior Graphic Designer (Marketing Dept) Ultimately this is why threads like this should be encouraged - talking about salaries is the best way for us all to get paid our due. My previous job (which is a neighbouring borough) really didn't. It certainly varies council to council though, the one I work for pays well. I would certainly say though that in terms of workload and stress Vs how much I get paid, the public sector is working very well for me. The other reply is correct in pointing out London weighting, I wouldn't earn so much elsewhere. My previous job role at another council was senior artworker and I earned 28k, so it was a good jump for this job. There's two of us and we have a team of freelancers for times of high workload. My boss is the Managing Designer (he earns about 55-65k). My actual title is simply 'graphic designer'. I handle all my own projects from start to finish, including managing client relationships, ordering print work and managing relationships with suppliers too. Well I only used the term mid based on the actual job role in terms of responsibility and my level of experience. ![]() Join our Discord server Design Subreddits LIST Please report any posts which break these rules, to maintain the quality of the subreddit.
